Park New Haven Contracts $4 Million to Minority and Women Business Enterprises

Using the Community to Build Community

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — (September 29, 2017) Park New Haven, is pleased to announce its participation in the Minority Business Enterprise and Women Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) Subcontractor Utilization Program. This national program ensures that minority and women businesses are given fair opportunity at contracts as sources of supplies, equipment, construction, and service, and Park New Haven is committed to its success. Within the past five years alone, the total number of MBE/WBE contracts the organization utilized tipped just over $4 Million, which accounts for one-half of its sub-contractor value. Park New Haven has been participating in the MBE/WBE programs since the 1980’s and continues to cultivate these efforts, as shown through recent efforts.

This follows on the heels of other socially-conscious improvements the parking authority has made in recent years. The State-Trumbull Parking Lot, which opened in October 2016, was the first parking lot in New England to be certified “green” by the Green Parking Council. Likewise, the institution of more parking spots for bicycles, and 19 electric vehicle charging stations in their facilities across the city, from downtown New Haven to Westville, upholds the organization’s dedication to solving the city’s transit issues in an eco-friendly capacity.

“We are dedicated to making positive change in the community, be it through solving transit-related issues in an eco-friendly manner, or supporting a strong, diversified economy by prioritizing the MBE/WBE program,” said Doug Hausladen, Acting Executive Director. “We’re both thrilled and humbled at the success of this program, and look forward to seeing it, and our Connecticut labor businesses, grow.”
