Park New Haven Offers Free Parking in Westville Village

Newly renovated Whalley-Blake Parking Lot in Westville will Host Free Parking for the Holidays

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — (December 8, 2014) — Park New Haven, which maintains and manages over 8,000 public parking spots across 7 garages and numerous surface facilities in Downtown New Haven, is pleased to announce that to kick-off the Holiday Season and officially open the newly renovated Whalley-Blake Lot, parking at the lot will be made free of charge through December (ending 1/1/15).

Through a unique Park New Haven / Westville Village Renaissance Alliance (WVRA) partnership, the Whalley-Blake Lot underwent a nearly $160,000 renovation project which transformed the aging surface lot in the heart of Westville’s shopping district into a more user friendly, accessible asset to the community. Among the repairs, additions and renovations to the lot were: extensive storm drainage repairs and replacement; the addition of a new perimeter fence; an enhanced pedestrian island and renovated stairs leading to the sidewalk; and the addition of a new illuminated entry sign, making finding the lot easier.

The lot now also features Park New Haven’s new Pay-On-Foot Kiosks, making paying for parking quicker and easier than ever.

Improvements will continue into 2015 by The WVRA, including new perimeter sidewalks and bike racks being added, additional exterior signage and painting, expanded and refreshed landscaping, public art renovations, and a new pedestrian entrance onto Whalley Avenue.

“Westville Village is one of the unique places that makes our city such a great place to live, work, and to visit,” said Park New Haven Chairman of the Board, Tony Bialecki. “Park New Haven is proud to be able to have made the much-needed repairs and renovations at our Whalley-Blake Lot, and now offer this free parking offer to the Westville residents and to all patrons of this lot during the Holiday Season,” added Bialecki.

This special Holiday free parking program is being offered to visitors to New Haven’s Westville neighborhood for the first time ever by a joint effort between Park New Haven and the Westville Village Renaissance Alliance. “We are extremely proud to have partnered with Park New Haven on improving the Whalley-Blake Lot and grateful for their commitment to revitalizing Westville Village and supporting its small businesses, whose customers rely on the lot. We welcome residents and visitors alike to enjoy the Village’s unique shopping, dining and services during this holiday season, with free parking generously extended until January 1st,” said Chris Heitmann, Executive Director of WVRA.
